Soy not "Soy" Good afterall

In the past people have believed that soy was an extremely healthy product, and also a great substitue for protein. Even though soy is a great replacement for protein, it may not be the health solution that the American public is looking for. Recent studies have shown that soy may possibly cause a few problems. Some tests were run and now scientists are questioning where soy is behind breats cancer in women. Soy could also be the culpret when it comes to some lack of brain function in males. Soy may also be linked to developmental abnormalities in some infants. Soy beans seem to be good for people in some aspects, but they also seem to be extremely awful in other aspects. To get to the bottom of this situation one needs to look at whos making the point on both sides and who would gain the most if soy is proved good or bad. There is a problem here though. When one looks at either side there are stong financial incentives on both sides of the argument, therefore one cannot decide which would gain more from proving a side of soy.
when i look at this situation I come to an easy desicion. Now this is completely my opinion and you may utterly disagree with me, but if there is any chance of me contracting brain damage or even breast cancer, no matter how slim the chances are for guys, i would avoid soy. Yes it is a great substitube for meats, and its also remarkable how it will change flavor depending on what you cook it with, but im not going to risk my life just so that i can save a few animals. Like when driving are you going to swerve infront of a semi to avoid hitting a small animal, or will you just take your chances with the animal. I know what i would do and i hope you agree with me when i say: STAY AWAY FROM SOOYYY AND TOFU!

  1. Very good information, Charlie! I also found out that soy was linked to breast cancer as well as many other illnesses. Also, infants seem to have more developmental abnormalities when they consume soy, but who says it isn't another item they are consuming that is causing these problems? And why is it that we haven't heard much about the negative aspects of soy in the media yet if it is so bad for you? Personally, I disagree with you because some many new items are appearing these days that claim to be "healthy" and "organic." But in reality, they could easily be lying. Soy has been around for a long time, especially in Asia, and I haven't heard of anyone over there blaming soy for their problems. So although I disagree, I respect that you feel it best to avoid soy and its products.

  2. Haha I highly doubt soy is the leading cause of cancer, brain damage, etc. People have been eating soy products for years and years and I honestly don't think it's anything people should be freaking out about. Sure, soy might contain some bad toxins but I don't think soy is a major issue.

  3. Alright Charlie, did you make up the clever title, or did you take it from a website? Either way, it is very funny!

It seems like every day a new study has come out with something negative about something we eat, buy, or do. We've all said that everything has some negative aspect to it. It seems that soy has just been talked about more...or has it? I haven't heard anything bad about soy until now. That won't stop me from buying soy products, however.

Charlie, I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you are that paranoid about eating soy, check the label to make sure it is "whole soy" or fermented.

  4. Nice job Charrrr,
The stuff you put in your blog post pretty much agrees with mine. Most of the people in the class thought that it was just fine and that soy products shouldn't be avoided or anything. The only reason people say this, in my opinion and from the stuff I read, is because the media makes it look good. It might not be as healthy as most people think it is, and plus the whole 'health foods' section in stores makes good business on soy products since they're sold at higher prices. Even if soy has the potential to be harmful, the companies wouldn't admit it. That's just my opinion.

  5. Think about it guys...how often do you use soy products anyway? Unless you are a vegetarian or health food nut, my guess is that soy is not a common part of your everyday life.
So, if people are really so concerned with the soy that they eat, the best solution is to not eat soy in the first place. Problem solved.

  6. Good post Charlie. You presented some good information in a good way. I agree with devin when he says that soy is not a daily part of our lives so i think it might not be a HUGE issue. But it is definetly and issue. Soy can be healthy but also harmful, i think a solution would be to hold of on soy until we have this problem solved. Good info, nice work.

  7. Magnificent...truely magnificent Charlie. I enjoyed your information, but I also liked that you took the time to write your opinion. I was surprised to hear that soy can cause brain damage in males. Bummer. Just for that I may stay away from soy haha. Although there are health negatives, I don't think they will be prevalent so quickly as you seemed to think. I believe that you would need to eat a whole lot of soy very often to see some of those problems occur. Now babies, that may be a different story, one that I do not want to experience. Haha. So I probably won't feed soy milk to my kid. Great job though.

  8. I agree completely with Jaden. Its hard to believe that soy could because so harmful and cause such lifelong damage. However, it was a very thoughtful post and it really made me think.

  9. Good information Charlie, but I totally disagree with you when you say "stay away from soy and tofu". There is no proof that soy has any effect on large groups of people. It may have minor individual effects, but has no proved effects, that I could find, on large groups of people. Soy maybe soy isn't "soy" bad after all!!!!!!
